Cuban streets
In December 2000, we holidayed in Havana and 14 years later we retraced our steps to see what had changed. Raúl Castro, now in charge, has allowed some free enterprise which has had a noticeable effect on tourism. We saw queues for pizza, small paladares (home restaurants) employing menu hustlers, highly renovated classic cars whose drivers offer a one-hour guided tour and the ubiquitous 'one peso' tip for everything from taking a photo to receiving a square of toilet paper in public loos.
But what a country for the photographer! I rattled through several memory cards and returned with over 1500 quite acceptable images of the week. A small selection can be found here.
