Krampus Run 2021
Not having been out with camera in hand for many months thanks to Covid-19 restrictions, it was good to hit the streets and catch the annual gathering of 'Bad Santas' in Whitby. The Krampus is a Germanic invention aimed at punishing children who have misbehaved during the year. This is the seventh year that Krampus has been out to frighten the crowds, and they've raised vital funds for local charities. The afternoon was bright and made the costumes seem fairly mild, but once darkness descended, a more sinister atmosphere covered the town. Battling with growing crowds and trying to maintain some sort of social distance meant that I was reluctant to dive into the fray. However, thanks to a few willing Krampii (or Krampuses), I managed a few portraits. Thanks to Kramps Laurence, Elaine, Steve, Julie, Pete, Ophelia, Nemo and Gwilym for stopping to chat and pose.
