Christmas in Ostend

Like many, I've always thought of Ostend as a passing-through sort of place - a port, a terminus. But having spent a few days there over Christmas 2013, I began to appreciate just how it has developed. There's a good smattering of traditional Flemish signature architecture, but also a not too unpleasant modern hotel build. A conversation point is obviously the huge orange crushed metal sculpture slap bang on the seafront. Love it or hate it the recycled pieces – our driver did say they were a load of rubbish – certainly make for interesting shapes as the light changes.
